The Independent Media Commission (IMC) in cooperation with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPD) have signed today a Memorandum of Cooperation.

The memorandum was signed by Mr. Xhevat Latifi - Chairman of the IMC, Mr. Afrim Maliqi - HANDIKOS, Daut Tishuki - Association of the Blind of Kosovo (KVS), Mr. Enver Kurtalani - Kosovo Association of the Deaf (AAC), Mrs. Sebahate Beqiri - Down Syndrome Kosovo and Mr. Bujar Kadriu Kosovo Disability Forum.

On this occasion, the representatives of all the signatory parties expressed their satisfaction with the achievement of this agreement, as well as pledged to achieve the goals and objectives of the memorandum.

Based on the proclamation of 2022 - Year of Persons with Disabilities, the memorandum was initiated with the main purpose of cooperation between Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and the Independent Media Commission, with the objective of raising awareness of services audiovisual media in Kosovo, regarding the correct terminology for people with disabilities, respectively preventing the use of incorrect terminology in audiovisual media services.

This memorandum aims to strengthen cooperation between the parties in order to raise public awareness about the use of adequate terminology for people with disabilities and especially the media.

Organizations of Persons with Disabilities will send complaints to the IMC for all cases where the media violates the use of terminology contrary to the brochure prepared by the DPO and which will be published by the IMC and will also be forwarded to the media.
