Jeton Mehmeti elected as Chairman of IMC

After the election of a new member from the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, the Independent Media Commission (IMC) called its first meeting in a new composition. The new leadership of the IMC was elected in this meeting. In a closed voting process, the five current members of the IMC have elected Mr. Jeton Mehmeti as Chairman and Mr. Fatih Basha as Deputy-chairman. According to the Law on IMC, they will serve a two-year term.  

Jeton Mehmeti has extensive experience in the media field as a researcher and lecturer. He has been teaching media and communication courses at the Department of Journalism of the University of Prishtina for five years and public policy courses at the Rochester Institute of Technology Kosovo (AUK) for the last two years. He has published a number of studies related to media sustainability, hate speech and disinformation, including his monograph “Tensions between freedom of expression and religious sensitivity” published in Germany. He has been the country manager of the “Media for All” project supported by Thomson Foundation, and country author during 2010-2022 of the annual report “Media Sustainability Index” published by IREX (USA). Mr. Mehmeti holds a BA degree in Communication (Malaysia), MA degree in Media Policy (Hungary/USA) and is a PhD candidate at the University of Graz (Austria). He is a recipient of the Balkan Fellowship for Journalistic Excellence, winner of Marshall Memorial Fellowship (USA) and participant at the Leadership Academy for Development (Stanford University).
