The Independent Media Commission (IMC) hosted in a working meeting officials from the EU Office in Kosovo and officials from the OSCE Mission in Kosovo.

In his introductory speech, the Chairman of the IMC, Mr. Jeton Mehmeti said that he is happy about the inter-institutional cooperation with the OSCE and the EU Office, and he expressed his willingness to further deepen this cooperation between the institutions. Following his speech, Mr. Mehmeti announced about the most important current work and activities of the IMC in fulfillment of constitutional and legal obligations.

The participants in the meeting discussed some topics of common interest in the field of media, with special emphasis on the work being done regarding the process of amending the Law on the IMC with the aim of harmonizing it with the new AVMS Directive.

Chairman Mr. Mehmeti said that he said that the IMC is treating with the highest seriousness the remarks and recommendations of the European Commission's report. He announced that the IMC is working on the drafting and amendment of three regulations that are foreseen within the National Program for European Integration 2023 as an obligation for the IMC as well as with the aim of following the trend with new developments in the media market. Therefore, in this direction, support from the EU and OSCE with external expertise or other forms of support is welcome.

The discussion continued regarding the current challenges of the IMC, the main of which are the financial difficulties as a result of budget cuts and the need to increase technical and human capacities, as well as the delays in the appointment of members of the Commission and the Board for Complaints in the IMC, which have caused impossibility of decision-making for certain periods.

On the part of the OSCE and EU officials, it was emphasized that they appreciate the work of the media regulator and expressed their commitment to support the IMC in the implementation of the highest standards in the field of regulation of audio-visual media services.
