The Independent Media Commission (IMC), on December 20, 2023, hosted a group of young journalists and journalism students from the School of Journalism Ethics, as part of a study visit organized by the Press Council             of Kosovo (PCK).

In the introductory speech, the Chairman of the IMC, Mr. Jeton Mehmeti has presented a brief summary about the IMC as a regulator of the media and the main activities during this year. In the following, the organization, functioning and role of the IMC as the sole and independent regulator for audio visual media in the Republic of Kosovo, the media monitoring process, the current challenges of the regulator in the trend of rapid developments are presented and explained in detail. technology in the field of media and the adaptation of the legal framework to these developments. Also, the legal framework, work procedures and deadlines as well as complaints to the media and their handling by the IMC were topics that were presented.

After the part of the presentations, the meeting continued with the question and answer session where the IMC officials answered the various questions that the students had, on issues related to the regulation of licensees, the monitoring by the IMC of Media Services Audiovisual in the implementation of the law and regulations of the IMC. The students were particularly interested in the licensing procedures at the IMC, the respect of the Code of Ethics by the media, the most frequent cases of complaints that the parties and the public address to the IMC, then the issue of protecting children in the media, the regulation of commercial communications, current programming schedules being broadcast, mandatory transmission of channels, live broadcasts and gender representation in the media.

This meeting was a continuation of other meetings and cooperation of the IMC with the PCK with the aim of promoting the ethical standards of journalism, increasing the quality of reporting in the media and protecting the public interest. IMC remains an institution that is always ready to offer opportunities for such cooperation and meetings, especially with young journalists, regarding issues related to the regulation of the media in the country.
