The Independent Media Commission in cooperation with the OSCE, on October 19, 2023, has organized a one-day workshop on the topic "Monitoring media reporting on women in the Prizren region".

The participants were representatives of several NGOs from the Prizren region, whose scope is gender equality issues, who during the workshop had the opportunity to get to know closely the way of organization and operation of the audiovisual media regulator in Kosovo.

Regarding the landscape and media monitoring, the organization and role of the IMC, activities, monitoring and work methodology were presented. Regarding the media environment, the licensing rules and procedures were presented: through public competition and through the request procedure (without terrestrial frequency), the number of licensees, licensing categories, broadcast languages and geographical coverage of media, transparency of work of the IMC, where all meetings, decisions and other activities are public.

Regarding the handling of complaints, a short practical session was held on how to submit a complaint to the IMC, with a focus on cases of gender inequality in media content, where the way of processing complaints was presented. Handling of complaints is carried out according to official deadlines and legal deadlines and the legislation for the handling of legal cases includes cases of violation of the Law of the IMC and violation of bylaws.

Regarding the topic of media reporting on gender aspects, the IMC presented the data from the monitoring of various shows, with a focus on election campaigns and the participation of women in television shows during election campaigns.

After the presentations, the participants continued with discussions related to the findings from the monitoring and various questions.

At the end of the meeting, the participating delegation visited the premises of the Department of Monitoring and Analysis, to see how media monitoring is carried out, and had the opportunity to get to know the operation and work of the Department closely.
