The Independent Media Commission (IMC) has submitted a request for an observer member in the Group of European Regulators for Audiovisual Media Services (ERGA). In the letter of the President of the IMC, Mr. Jeton Mehmeti, addressed to Mr. Giacomo Lasorella, Chairman of ERGA, IMC has expressed interest in joining ERGA meetings with the rights of an observer member.

Considering that the transposition of the AVMS Directive into legislation and the implementation of its obligations are the biggest challenges facing all media regulatory authorities, it is very important that the IMC is part of the ERGA meetings, to ensure an efficient process of aligning our national legal framework with the EU legal body

The IMC in its application for membership has informed ERGA that it is a member of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA) and the Mediterranean Network of Regulatory Authorities (MNRA), networks that provide opportunities for independent regulatory authorities to exchange information, cases and best practices in relation to the common challenges of all, therefore it remains awaiting a positive response to this request.
