The Independent Media Commission (IMC) in a conference today published the website Registry of Media Ownership in Kosovo.

In his introductory speech, the Chairman of the IMC, Mr. Jeton Mehmeti said that the Register of Media Ownership in Kosovo https://registri.kpm-ks.org/  is a page that provides complete data on licensed media in IMC, starting with the name of the licensee, name of the business/NGO, type of activity, ownership, address, contacts, date of license issue, renewal and license expiry, coverage, main broadcast language and languages other broadcast details and other details that may interest the public for licensed media. Also, the development of this page is related to the implementation of IMC's objectives, one of which is "Increasing the transparency of IMC's licensees". Chairman Mr. Mehmeti pointed out that this new register has a critical role in strengthening the integrity and transparency of the media licensed in the IMC and is in function of the implementation of the IMC legislation, specifically IMC Regulation-2023/03, for ownership and concentration of IMC licensees.

Also in this presentation, the Deputy Ambassador of the OSCE, Mrs. Cornelia Taylor, where she congratulated the launch of the media ownership register page and said that on the part of the OSCE as a supporter of this project, they are happy to see such a result of bilateral cooperation, which will raise the transparency of ownership of the media and is a step towards improving the ethical and professional standards of the media in the country, as well as increasing the reliability of the information distributed by the media.

Participants at the conference had the opportunity to express questions about the operation of the new registry. The launch of the new register marks a key moment in the path towards a more advanced and responsible media environment in Kosovo.
