The Independent Media Commission (IMC) was visited by Mr. Matthias Kiesler, Director of the Directorate for International Media Policy at the Federal Foreign Ministry of Germany.

Mr. Kiesler and his team, Mr. Christian Boettcher and Mrs. Ramize Ferati from the Media Department at the German Embassy, were received at the meeting by the Chair of the IMC, Mr. Jeton Mehmeti and Deputy Chief Executive Mr. Faruk Rexhaj.

In his introductory speech, the President Mr. Mehmet welcomed Mr. Kiesler, and then informed him about the mandate, organization and work of the IMC, in fulfillment of constitutional and legal obligations.

Thanking for the reception Mr. Kiesler said that he is happy about the cooperation of the IMC with the Embassy of Germany in Kosovo and expressed interest in understanding more about the current work of the IMC. This meeting presents an opportunity to discuss the challenges and issues that Kosovo faces in the media sector and to identify possible ways to improve this situation.

In their discussions, Mr. Kiesler and the representatives of the IMC focused on issues related to freedom of the press, media pluralism in Kosovo, institutional and media challenges, as well as the process of amending the Law on the IMC with purpose of harmonization with the new AVMS Directive.
